Camp Descriptions:

Hiking: Explorers put their feet to the test and practice skills necessary for spending time in the backcountry. Practice packing a backpack, treat minor first aid issues, and read maps that will help you get out on your own.

Kayaking: Spend a day on the water! Explorers will learn the basics of kayaking skills and practice safety techniques. We’ll learn how to read the river and the basic laws of seamanship.

Navigation: Explorers will learn the basics of map and compass navigation and practice  navigating with a GPS device. Geocaching will be the afternoon’s activity, as students use their navigation skills to find hidden treasures throughout the park.

Fishing: Practice your angling skills while learning about different species of fish found on the Grand River. Explorers will have an option to design and create their own flies and/or spoon lures or fish for panfish with worms.

Wilderness Skills: First aid to fire building–this camp teaches Explorers everything they need to know to stay safe in the backcountry. Topics include preparedness, shelter building, water purification, first aid, and fire building.
