Musketawa Trail Grand Reopening on September 11

by | Aug 26, 2026 | Parks Department

Major rehabilitation work has brought significant improvements to the Musketawa Trail thanks to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).

The trail has reopened from the Marne Trailhead east to Squires Rd., providing approximately 9.5 miles of continuous trail access. The approximately 1.5-mile stretch between Squires Road and Ravenna Road, and the trailhead in Conklin will remain closed until the week of September 21 for additional repair work.

The Friends of the Musketawa Trail invite trail users, community members and outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate a fresh new chapter for the Musketawa Trail with a Grand Reopening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting on September 11 from 3:00–6:00 p.m. The event marks the completion of Phase 1 of the Musketawa Trail rebuild, including the newly rebuilt Crockery Creek bridge and new pavement extending into Ottawa County.

The celebration will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the west end of the newly rebuilt Crockery Creek bridge in Ravenna, including remarks from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Parking will be available at the Ravenna Trailhead parking lot, with a short walk east to the bridge.

Participants can travel east across the new Crockery Creek bridge and continue onto the newly-paved section of trail beginning at Ellis Road in Ottawa County. Bring a bicycle or walking shoes and choose your own distance and pace. Helmets are encouraged for those participating on wheels.

This rehabilitation project represents a significant investment in one of West Michigan’s premier regional trails and will provide a safer, more durable, and more enjoyable experience for trail users for years to come. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the improved trail!
